Pewter Cast Yo-Yo
As a TA for a Machine Design class (ENGS 146), I designed a pewter casting Yo-Yo lab to replace the Injection Molding lab from the previous year. This lab instructed students on SolidWorks Mold Tools, GD&T, and 3D HSM Works.
Since no instructor in Thayer had 3D pewter casting experience. Myself and the other TA designed the lab on my suggestion of introducing casting to the class. The final product included a secondary machining operation to seed an O-Ring (used as a clutch) and a bearing.
To design this lab we experimented with yo-yo thickness, extracting methods, sprue design, and secondary operations before handing the project off to the students.
